Eviction Prevention Specialist

Position Summary:  The Eviction Prevention Specialist provides highly responsible and complex counseling and case management services in office and community settings specific to the designated Housing Authority – City of Pittsburgh public housing settings.  The position provides support in maintaining permanent housing. 

Position Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a Social Service related field and at least two years of relevant experience in case management. A Master’s degree in Social Work or a Social Service field is preferred.

Must have a demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of mental illness and chemically dependent persons and families.

Demonstrated ability to provide individual, family and group counseling.

Demonstrated knowledge of mental health diagnosis along with the understanding of the impact of poverty on individuals and families.

Demonstrated ability in making appropriate support linkages on behalf of designated clients.

Demonstrated client engagement skills.

A valid PA Driver’s License and access to a vehicle is required.

This position must be available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed.

Solid computer skills including experience with Microsoft products such as Outlook, Word, and Excel are required.

Presentation skills and a professional manner along with the ability to interact with a diverse group of clients.

Excellent written and verbal skills.
Self-directed, flexible with strong problem-solving abilities.
Support the organization’s mission along with sensitivity of cultural and workplace harmony.        

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Implement and maintain the Familylinks philosophy, principles, methodology and procedures in all facets of performance.
Assesses, and evaluates potential for clients-families to learn and utilize skills to improve economic self-sufficiency.
Meet with clients for case management and life skills support in both individual and group settings.
Develops and implements case management referrals.
Complete timely and accurate documentation of case records per funder expectations.
Communicate, collaborate and meet with staff, families, external agencies and/or others as necessary to support services to clients and the mission of the agency.
Maintains weekly utilization as set by supervisor.
Establishes and works closely with community and referral sources including responding to service and information contacts from outside the agency.
Presents client case histories in staff meetings.
Presents client information and works collaboratively with other team members, supervisor, and other pertinent internal and external stakeholders.     
Takes responsibility for own learning and professional development through participation in individual supervision, mandatory staff meetings, in-service trainings, conferences and workshops.  Must maintain professional certification(s) and/or licensing.
Report weekly in-home visits and outcomes to Supervisor.
Attends all meetings, trainings and supervisions as required.
Complete assigned client documentation in a timely manner.

Working Conditions:

Work is completed within the office or out in the community at participant’s home or other community and provider agencies.

Must be able to travel to the various office locations
Ability to lift and carry light boxes of files and supplies (less than 10 pounds) on occasion

Exposure to clients with substance abuse, mental illness, and communicable disease is highly likely.
